Dede sees that Fela has set up an altar with the picture of Trujillo that Patria threw away

Jaimito proposes to Dede, but she is in love with Lio who is in love with Minerva. However, Dede decides to accept Jaimito's proposal.

When Jaimito proposes to Dede, they find Lio hiding in his car. Lio gives Dede a letter he wants her to give to Minerva. However, since Dede is in love with Lio, she burns the letter. The letter also asked Minerva to run away with him, which gave Dede even more cause to burn the letter. Although burning the letter was done for bad reasons, it seems as if it would not have changed anything if Minerva did get the letter because she was not in love with Lio and would not have gone with him

Dedé had accidentally finds Fela's shrine of the girls one Friday in the shed behind the house. She ordered Fela to move the shrine. At this time it is very clear that Dedé is trapped in the past always remembering the death of her sisters.

Minerva suspects that her dad is cheating. She has now seen her father's car in front of the same house multiple times. Also, she finally saw four little girls come out that had the "Mirabal eyes".

Mate now goes to join Minerva at the university.

Mate is having a lot of trouble with her fathers death.

Minerva gives her son Manolito to Patria and tells her to keep him because she says she and Manolo will be on the road a lot now and will only be in coming back a couple times a week for meetings

Nelson, Patrias son is talking about how he if joining the rebellion

Pedrito and Patria have a fight about how she allows her sisters to meet in his house when they are planning to overthrow Trujillo. Pedrito says that they can no longer meet on his land, and that Patria is exposing their son to the rebellion and is endangering their sons patrimony

Jaimito, Dedes husband makes Dede swear she will not get involved with her sisters and their participation in the rebellion

Minerva and Mate are taken by the SIM as well.

Patrias husband and son, Pedrito and Nelson are taken by the SIM (Trujillo's secret police) and the house is burned down.

Captain Pena arrives and informs Patria that the SIM made her husband an offer. He would get his freedom and farm back if he divorced his Mirabal wife, but Pedrito refused.

Nelson is returned to the family but without Pedrito

Maria Teresa was taken to La 40 and whipped in front of her husband to try to convince him to do a job for Trujillo. After Mate almost went unconscious he cried out, "I'll do it! I'll do it!" (Alvarez, 256)

Minerva and Mate have been released to house arrest

All of the girls, not including Dedé, are in the car driving but before they reach their destination they are ambushed and beat to death. After the girls a dead the car is pushed over a cliff to make their deaths look like a car accident.
