The Everly Brothers signed their very first record label with Warner Bros. Records. During this time, the brothers wrote and recorded "Cathy's Clown", which has been covered by many, most famously by Reba McEntire.

The Everly Brothers both enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. This slowed down their career, but they still released singles like "That's Old Fashioned". This song would be their last top ten song of their careers.

The Everly Brothers preformed on the Ed Sullivan Show in full Marine Corps uniform and played "Jezebel" and "Crying in the Rain".

Don Everly collapses while at a show due to his drug addictions, but the media was told he had food poisoning. Both Everly brothers were amphetamine addicts, which was not uncommon in rock and roll artists.

The Everly Brothers released their album Roots, which critics called "one of the finest early country-rock albums." One of the songs, "Mama Tried" would become very popular by country artist Merle Haggard.
