Olaudah Equiano is born

Olaudah is kidnapped and sold to various masters within Africa, he then endures the middle passage to Barbados and Virginia where he is bought by British Naval Officer Michael Henry Pascal and renamed Gustavus Vassa. He then serves with Pasccal in the royal navy in the 7 year war with France. He learns to read and write. Baptised as a Christian at St Margaret's church, Westminster, England

Sold to Captain James Doran of the ship "Charming Sally" and is taken back to Monserrat. He is bought by an American, Robert King. King is a merchant and a Quaker.
1763 - 1766

Equiano works for his master, Robert King, as a secretary, partly in the West Indies. He
also makes money of his own from careful trading, saving it in order to buy his freedom.
1766 - 1773

Olaudah pays money to his owner and buys his freedom. He is a free man again. He returns to England but spends most of his life at sea as a sailor and even a captain. He travels to the Arctic and then Italy where he witnesses Mt Vesuvius erupt.
